1200 x 600 Porcelain Tiles

In our blog we take a deep dive into 1200 x 600 porcelain tiles and explore everything from designing with this size of tile, laying patterns, aswell as durability and versatility. With a whole selection of different size porcelain tiles out there how do you decide on the best size tile for your project? What are the key considerations of choosing a particular tile size and what are the benefits of opting for a 1200 x 600 format. Let’s take a look!

Why choose 1200 x 600 porcelain tiles

1200 x 600 porcelain tiles stand out because of their large format. They are sleek and contemporary, work well for both floors and walls and bring an architectural feel to spaces. This lovely large tile size really speaks of modern luxury. One key benefit of opting for this large size tile is the minimal number of grout lines – larger tiles equal less grout and that helps to create a seamless look and feel to areas. All our 1200 x 600 porcelain tiles feature rectified edges – this simply means that tile edges are straight – and this in turn means clean, straight lines. It also means a super slim 3mm grout line too.

This versatile tile size can be used on walls and floors across the home – kitchens, bathrooms, hallways and living areas, you name it, these tiles are ideal for those seeking a large format tile for the home. In addition, these tiles are available in a plethora of different finishes including antislip textures making them perfect for patio and outside spaces too.

Like all our porcelain tile collections these larger format tiles work brilliantly with underfloor heating too, keeping spaces toasty warm in winter and of course, tiles are also cool in summer.

Installation tips for 1200 x 600 porcelain tiles

It’s always advisable to opt for professional installation of porcelain tiles and this is especially so with larger formats to ensure a flawless finish.

Unlike square tiles, you have the choice to use rectangular tiles horizontally or vertically. You also have the option to stack them for a simple, refined gridlike effect or offset them – all of which can add interest to walls. So, 1200 x 600 porcelain tiles are a fabulous option if you are looking for a large format tile that can be laid in various ways.

If you are offsetting 1200 x 600 tiles, then it is important not to overlap them by more than 1/3 when installing. Rather than “brick-bond” these tiles at 50%, offsetting them by less than 1/3 helps avoid lippage – lippage simply refers to the unevenness between adjacent tiles, where one tile edge is higher than another. Lippage creates an uneven surface is visually unappealing. Click here to see tiles offset by less than 1/3 in a recent kitchen project.

For walls, 1200 x 600 porcelain tiles can work brilliantly in portrait format. For a typical 2.4m ceiling height installing vertically means you have just 2 tiles high. Or, of course, you can look to install horizontally too.

Choosing a grout colour that blends with your tiles will further enhance that seamless look and feel to spaces. Most tiles have a background colour so match to that. Or if you want to create a feature of your tiles then choose a different grout colour – perhaps picking a colour in your tile that co-ordinates rather than blends.

How to Style 1200 x 600 Porcelain Tiles

With porcelain tiles mimicking other materials your really can go to town with your design. Ranges include everything from limestone effect tiles to wood effect, marbles, concretes, metals, cements, slate and terrazzo effect tiles. And with tile technology and leading manufacturers pushing the boundaries of what is possible with design, tiles are more realistic than ever before.

If it’s minimalist styling you are looking for then opting for these big tiles in concrete and cement effects can bring a cool, urban vibe to spaces. These larger tiles can bring the effect of slabs tapping into and industrial feel. Check out our Metro, Blend and Docklands collections. All these collections offer beautifully simply styling.

Marble effect tiles can look amazing in 1200 x 600mm formats and for bathroom walls can work a treat in portrait format especially with either the same floor tile or swap out marble for a 600 x 600mm contemporary concrete or cement effect floor tile. Simply look for the colours in your marble tile and pick a floor tile to co-ordinate.

Take our Macchia Vecchia – this gorgeous tile pairs to perfection with Metro Grey or for a warmer tone opt for Docklands Beige.

1200 x 600 porcelain tiles in statement stones can add the wow factor to spaces. With tiles ranging from those with minimal veining to really impactful designs you can really create a stunning canvas to spaces with stone effect tiles in this large format size.

Durability and ease of maintenance

Porcelain is renowned for its superb resistance to wear and tear, as well as its high scratch and stain resistance. All this makes porcelain tiles a superb option for both residential and commercial spaces. This is a highly practical material that can withstand the thrills and spills of daily life whilst adding incredible design to spaces. Not only that, but porcelain tiles are also very easy to keep clean – on the whole they just need a regular sweep and a mop with warm water. What’s not to like?
