Choosing designer porcelain flooring

Designer porcelain flooring ticks all the boxes. This hardwearing material is not only beautiful to look at it is superbly functional and versatile.

Opting for designer porcelain flooring also brings another set of benefits around design. Leading manufacturers are constantly pushing the boundaries of what is possible with porcelain tile technology and that brings innovative design and finishes that make this material the ideal pick for your next project.

There are a whole host of great reasons to choose designer porcelain tiles for your home. This is a go-to flooring material for homeowners, interior designers and architects alike.

So if you are yet to decide on the best flooring for your project, let us help you find your feet.

1. Super hardwearing

It’s high up there on the list of any homeowners requirements. Flooring that can deal with the thrills and spills of every day life. Porcelain really is the unsung hero of the day. This is a product that is super hardwearing thanks to it’s make up. Produced from a mix of clays and minerals fired at high temperatures, porcelain is incredibly dense and that means it can easily cope with the wear and tear of busy households. This really is one of the most durable materials you will find. As with any porcelain tile, top quality, professional installation is key.

2. Scratch Resistant

Porcelain flooring is not only hardwearing, it is also highly scratch resistant. As well as making it perfect for busy homes, it’s high scratch resistance also makes it a perfect for those with pets. Sharp claws, dog bowls et al are no contest for this material. Polished finishes can dull a little over time especially where shoes might drag grit or dirt across the surface so it is worth considering other tile finishes if this is a concern such as matt or natural finishes.

3. Stain Resistant

Whilst it is always advisable to clear up any spillages immediately, porcelain flooring is highly stain resistant. With a porosity level of 0.5% or less it has minimal water absorption making it unlikely to stain.  Because of the low porosity, porcelain tiles can be used across the home including bathrooms and outside too.

4. A breeze to clean

Porcelain flooring is a breeze to clean. An initial clean is imperative after installation to remove any excess grout and organic dirt and your installer should do this once the project is completed. From there, a sweep followed by a mop and warm water if necessary should do the trick.

5. Longevity

If installed correctly, your porcelain tiles will last and last without showing significant signs of wear.

6. Great with underfloor heating

Porcelain flooring works a treat with underfloor heating. And of course, in the summer when you want a climate quality porcelain flooring can help with that too, as it is lovely and cool to the touch

7. Allergy-friendly

Unlike carpet, porcelain doesn’t trap dust so it is a good option for the home.

8. Incredible design

Designer porcelain flooring brings amazing design to spaces. Porcelain tiles mimic the design of other materials. How well that is done is all down to the tile technology used. The latest tiles from manufacturers who are pushing the boundaries of what is possible with porcelain and ceramics, means tiles are echoing marbles, metals, woods, stones, limestones and more better than ever before.

Gone are the days of just one or two patterns per tile. Now porcelain collections house maybe 20, 30, 40 or even 50 patterns. Take our Season wood effect porcelain tiles with over 40 different faces or patterns it really is tricky to tell the difference from the real thing. These are tiles that cleverly echo with all the knots and gnarls of real wood.

And let’s nor forget pattern. Patterned designer porcelain flooring can add fun to spaces – and it can be great to mix it up opting for a concrete or cement tile across ground floors and then adding a dash of design to snugs, boot rooms or offices.

9. Porcelain can be used outside

Because of the low porosity, porcelain can be used outside aswell. An outside tile has a higher slip rating than an inside tile. The tile surface has a layer of frit that creates a rougher surface for added grip. All our 2cm porcelain pavers for outside spaces have a co-ordinating inside tile too making it easy to run the same porcelain flooring inside and out. This is where it is important to look for quality porcelain flooring too. Whilst the inside and outside tiles won’t match exactly they should be a good quality match and to the eye look like the same tile!

10. Finishes

And finally, let’s finish with finishes! Designer porcelain flooring comes in a host of finishes, from matt to natural, antislip to soft, polished to glossy and more. Tile finish can transform a tile. Take a marble tile, you can create a completely different look and feel to a space with a gloss tile versus a matt finish. Tile technology is producing some pretty clever stuff too. With designer porcelain flooring there are finishes now that have added grip, but are still easy to clean so the same tile can be used inside and outside the home. Plus finishes where pattern and design align, so the knots of wood look ultra realistic.
