Louis Mocha marquetry wood effect tile

This is our own home refurbishment featuring our Louis Mocha marquetry wood effect tile! We’ve always loved this tile, it is warm, rich in design and has a lovely natural finish to the tile surface. It is also in a lovely large 900 x 900mm format.

But it wasn’t an easy decision and pulling all our colours together was tricky, as it is for most of our customers. We couldn’t decide between Louis and our gorgeous Docklands Beige 900 x 900mm tile – a concrete effect sandy toned tile with a beautiful textured finish. In the end Louis Mocha just worked so well with our earthy, rich colour palette of forest green, mustards, pinks and terracotta red.

Things to consider

Interior design is an art and whilst we are not designers, we certainly know a thing or two about tiles and how they can impact a space. From tile size, to tile finish, colour and format, the tiles you choose for your space can transform it. We wanted a large format tile and to create a seamless look and feel – we opted for Mapei 134 grout which was a great colour match. We also knew we wanted a tile that would make our space feel warm and cosy and both the Mocha colour and the Natural tile finish of Louis have helped us achieve this.

We also wanted to connect our dining area to our kitchen area and using the same flooring across both spaces was key to this. This has opened up the area and made it feel more cohesive.

Grout Colour

Matching grout colour to your chosen tiles helps to create a flow across your floor. When choosing grout, always make sure you test on a small area of tiles first! The great thing about choosing large format, rectified tiles ie tiles with straight edges, is grout lines are super slim. The recommended British Standard is 3mm for floors.

Tile Design and the Benefits of Porcelain

Great manufacturers are pushing the boundaries of what is achievable with tile design and creating tiles that are more and more realistic. It really can be hard to tell the difference between a wood effect tile and the real thing. Of course, the beauty of porcelain tiles is you have all the brilliant performance of this superbly hardwearing material with a product that looks like wood! Porcelain is highly scratch, stain and fade resistant and won’t warp or bend. And cleaning it is a cinch, just a mop and warm water usually do the trick!
