Why Choose porcelain 600x600 floor tiles?

Porcelain 600×600 floor tiles deliver on a number of points.

Durability – porcelain has many benefits. Not only is this material incredibly durable, it is also waterproof, scratch resistant, stain resistant and easy to clean. So 600×600 floor tiles in porcelain are a smart choice for the home.

Cost – tiles tend to increase in cost per sqm the larger you go and whilst 600×600 floor tiles just sneek into that large format bracket, they are still small enough not attract the prices that bigger tiles can for example 900×900 or 1mx1m.

Wastage – it’s always important to add some wastage to your overall sqm. The good news is with a 600×600 floor tile wastage is usually at the more conservative end of the scale ie around 10%. There will always be some cuts required, sometimes tiles can get broken or incorrectly cut or chipped during the installation process and whilst tiles are incredibly robust, it is a wise idea to just keep a spare pack or two for the future just in case. The recommended wastage varies between 10-20% with larger tiles requiring more. Wastage is also partly dependent on how straightforward your project is eg is it one square or rectangular room or are there lots of smaller rooms or corridors that need tiling too.

Versatility – This versatile size is great for floor. It is also a great size for the walls in the home and brings a modern, contemporary look and feel to spaces. 600×600 floor tiles are a good choice for kitchens, dining areas, corridors or even open plan spaces and are particularly well-suited to bathrooms. Bathrooms tend to be the smallest rooms in the home and opting for a 600×600 floor tile can be a smart choice. 600×600 floor tiles can also be used outside in the right slip ratings.

Contemporary – By opting for a 600×600 floor tile with rectified ie straight tile edges, these square tiles can deliver a clean, square, shape that creates a contemporary look and feel. The larger the tile, the less grout lines there are which means spaces feel simple, stylish and uncluttered.

Ease of installation and maintenance – 600×600 floor tiles are a popular size so there is every chance your tiler will be used to installing this size of tile. In addition, unlike smaller feature tiles, 600 x 600 floor tiles will require less grout making them easier to maintain.

600x600 floor tiles and design

Porcelain tiles are designed to mimic other materials, for instance marble, wood, concrete, cement, terrazzo, stone to name a few. There are porcelain tiles that look like all these different materials. The real benefit is you also have all the excellent performance only porcelain can bring. Unlike natural stone or marble, which are quite soft, porcelain tiles are very hard and there highly scratch and stain resistant. And unlike natural wood, porcelain tiles won’t fade in sunny spots of the home and can be easily mopped with water.

Good quality 600×600 floor tiles echo other materials incredibly well. Leading manufacturers are continuously investing in tile technology to make tiles appear as realistic as possible with innovative tile finishes. These finishes are used to enhance the tile design. Not only do tiles look like marble, they feel like marble. Not only do tiles look like wood, they showcase all the knots and gnarls associated with real wood. Good quality tile collections also house a large number of different patterns for variation. Again, the days of just one or two different designs are well and truly over. Now tile collections from leading manufacturer house 20 or 30 different “faces” ensuring that even across larger open plan spaces there is huge variation.

A quick Q&A about 600x600 floor tiles

How many tiles do I need per sqm?

You would need just under 3 tiles per sqm. 3 tiles cover 1.08sqm so you need 2.78 tiles per square metre.

Are porcelain 600×600 floor tiles easy to install?

Whereas bigger tiles may require a tiler who specialises in large formats, most professional installers will be used to installing 600×600 floor tiles. We would always recommend using a professional installer as porcelain tiles are heavy, due to their dense make-up and tiles with rectified edges in particular require precision installation.

Are porcelain 600×600 floor tiles suitable for smaller rooms eg bathrooms?

Yes they are. They make a great floor tile size. The larger the tile, the less grout lines so you may want to go even larger if you are seeking a “more tile, less grout” approach.

Can you use porcelain 600×600 floor tiles outside?

Yes you can. Porcelain tiles are frost and fade resistant. Just make sure you opt for a tile with an antislip finish.

So many of our collections feature 600×600 tiles. They are a popular choice because they tend to be more cost effective than larger tiles. They also don’t usually require as much wastage as larger tiles. In addition, most professional installers are used to handling this size of tile and they can be used on walls as well as floors. This makes them a good pick for bathroom floors in particular. They are also available in a huge variety of designs and finishes!
